Creating a basement (Easy)
Lay some foundations and cut a hole in them. Start 1 square away from the edge so that there will still be some foundation on the outside.
Now switch to the lowest level view and select the terrain tool. Dig into the ground, around 10 clicks to start. Put 1 piece of wallpaper on the wall, preferably one with a skirting board. This will help you see how far you will need to dig. Use the levelling tool to dig away at the ground and see how far you have got.

Once your floor is level it should look like the picture below. Now you're ready to decorate your basement room using the usual floor and wall tools. I've given this one an old-fashioned floor and wall combination to look like a hidden part of the building, perhaps an old wine cellar, that sort of thing.
Thanks to Nic at Simity-Sims for her help on this one!
